Face Creams - Dehydrated Skin

General Recipe:

  • 65% - 75% Distilled Water or Aloe Vera Juice (Base)
  • 10% - 15% Glycerin or Sodium PCA (Humectant)
  • 10% - 15% Squalane or Jojoba Oil (Emollient)
  • 3% - 5% Emulsifying Wax NF or Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier)
  • 2% - 3% Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) (Active Ingredient)
  • 0.5% - 1% Ceramides (Additional Active Ingredient)
  • 0.5% - 1% Panthenol (Additional Active Ingredient)
  • 0.5% - 1% Phenoxyethanol or Ethylhexylglycerin (Preservative)

Active Ingredients:

The dehydrated skin formula employs active ingredients that are known for their hydrating properties:

  • Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid): Known for its capacity to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, Hyaluronic Acid is a super hydrator. It helps to lock in skin's moisture and plumps up the skin surface.

  • Ceramides: These are lipids (fats) that help form the skin's barrier and help skin retain moisture. Supplementing with ceramides can help restore the skin's natural barrier, keep the skin hydrated, and protect against environmental irritants.

  • Panthenol: Also known as Vitamin B5, it acts as a humectant by infusing water in the cells, retaining moisture deep within the skin tissues. This hydration helps to improve skin's elasticity and provides relief for dry, rough, or dehydrated skin.

The percentage of these active ingredients can be higher compared to a general cream recipe, to cater to the dehydrated skin condition.

Emollient:

Lightweight emollients like Squalane or Jojoba Oil are used, which are quickly absorbed without leaving a greasy residue. They help to soften and hydrate skin by reducing evaporation.

These differences in ingredient selection are specifically designed to target the needs of dehydrated skin and effectively increase skin hydration. The rest of the recipe is quite similar to any other cream, including the base, emulsifier, and preservative.
