Bentonite Clay Mask

General Recipe:

1. Water (40-60%): This is your primary vehicle and solvent.

2. Bentonite Clay (30-50%): This is the active ingredient that gives the mask its characteristic properties.

3. Emulsifier (2-6%): An emulsifier like glyceryl stearate SE or cetearyl alcohol is needed to properly disperse the clay in the water.

4. Humectant (5-10%): A humectant such as glycerin or propylene glycol can be used to help retain moisture.

5. Thickener (0.5-2%): A thickener like xanthan gum or cellulose gum can improve the texture and consistency of the mask.

6. Preservatives (0.5-1.5%): A preservative such as phenoxyethanol or sodium benzoate is necessary to prevent bacterial growth and extend shelf life.

7. Additional Actives (0.1-5%): These can be ingredients that provide additional benefits, like soothing allantoin, antioxidant green tea extract, or skin-brightening niacinamide.
