Color-Protecting Shampoos

Color-Protecting Shampoos

General Recipe:

  1. Primary Surfactants (10-15%): Gentle surfactants like Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate or Cocamidopropyl Betaine are commonly used to reduce the risk of color stripping.

  2. Secondary Surfactants (2-7%): You can enhance the texture and foaming of the shampoo with additional surfactants like Decyl Glucoside or Lauryl Glucoside.

  3. Color-Protecting Agents (1-5%): Ingredients like Quaternium-80 or Amodimethicone can help seal the hair cuticle to prevent color washout. Sunflower Extract is also used for its ability to protect hair color from UV damage.

  4. Conditioning Agents (1-5%): Light conditioning agents such as Cetrimonium Chloride or Behentrimonium Chloride can help detangle and soften the hair without fading the color.

  5. pH Adjusters (0.1-1%): Adjust pH as needed, typically with Citric Acid. A slightly acidic pH can help close the hair cuticle and preserve color.

  6. Thickening Agents (0.5-2%): Sodium Chloride or Xanthan Gum can be used to adjust the viscosity of the shampoo.

  7. Preservatives (0.5-2%): Use a suitable preservative, such as Phenoxyethanol or Sodium Benzoate, to prevent microbial growth.

  8. Water (to 100%): The remaining portion of the shampoo is typically water.

Additional ingredients such as fragrance, color, or botanical extracts can be added to enhance the product's appeal and benefits. These shampoos are made to protect dyed hair and prevent color from fading.
