Dandruff Shampoo
General Recipe:
-
Anti-Dandruff Agents (0.5-5%): These are active ingredients that help to fight against dandruff. Common ones include Zinc Pyrithione, Selenium Sulfide, or Ketoconazole.
-
Primary Surfactants (10-15%): Mild surfactants such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. These cleanse the hair and scalp.
-
Secondary Surfactants (2-7%): Secondary surfactants like Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Cocamide DEA can help to boost the cleansing power and increase lather.
-
Conditioning Agents (1-5%): These can help to counterbalance the potential drying effects of the anti-dandruff agents. Ingredients can include Polyquaternium-7 or Behentrimonium Chloride.
-
Thickening Agents (0.5-2%): Agents such as Sodium Chloride or Xanthan Gum can be used to adjust the viscosity of the shampoo.
-
pH Adjusters (0.1-1%): These can be used to balance the pH of the shampoo. Citric Acid is a common choice.
-
Preservatives (0.5-1.5%): Ingredients such as Phenoxyethanol or Sodium Benzoate are used to prevent microbial growth in the shampoo.
-
Water (to 100%): The remaining percentage of the formula is water, used as a solvent.
Additional ingredients like fragrance, colorants, or botanical extracts can also be added to customize the product. These are medicated shampoos designed to treat dandruff and other scalp conditions.
