Leave-In Conditioner

General Recipe:

  1. Water (70-85%): The majority of this type of product is typically water.

  2. Cationic Surfactants (2-5%): Such as Behentrimonium Methosulfate or Cetrimonium Chloride. These ingredients aid in detangling and provide a soft, smooth feel to the hair.

  3. Emollients (2-5%): Such as natural oils (e.g., Jojoba oil, Coconut oil) or synthetic oils (e.g., Silicones like Dimethicone). These ingredients help to moisturize and seal the hair cuticle.

  4. Humectants (2-5%): Like Glycerin or Propylene Glycol. Humectants help attract and retain moisture in the hair.

  5. Conditioning Polymers (0.1-2%): Examples include Polyquaternium-7 or Polyquaternium-10. These can add body, improve combability, and reduce static electricity.

  6. Proteins (0.2-2%): Such as Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein or Silk Protein. These ingredients can help to strengthen the hair and reduce breakage.

  7. Preservatives (0.5-1.5%): Preservatives like Phenoxyethanol or Sodium Benzoate are crucial for ensuring that the product has a suitable shelf life.

  8. Fragrance (0.2-1%): This is added to give the product a pleasant scent.

  9. pH Adjusters (0.1-0.5%): Ingredients such as Citric Acid or Sodium Hydroxide are used to adjust the pH of the product to a level that is safe and effective for the hair.

  10. Thickeners (0.1-1%): Xanthan Gum, Carbomer or other thickeners to adjust the product's consistency.

  11. Specialty additives (1-2%): Such as botanical extracts (Aloe Vera, Chamomile), vitamins (Vitamin E), or panthenol for marketing claims and additional benefits.

These conditioners are left in the hair after washing and are not rinsed out. They continue to condition the hair throughout the day.
