Moisturizing Conditioner

General Recipe:

  1. Cationic surfactants or Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (5-8%): These ingredients, such as Behentrimonium methosulfate, Cetrimonium chloride, or Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, provide conditioning properties by adhering to the hair strand. They also give hair its smooth and shiny appearance.

  2. Fatty Alcohols or Oils (3-6%): Cetyl alcohol, Stearyl alcohol, or natural oils like Argan oil, Coconut oil, or Jojoba oil can help to provide additional moisturization and help in the emulsification process.

  3. Humectants (2-5%): Ingredients like Glycerin or Propylene glycol attract and retain moisture.

  4. Proteins or Amino Acids (0.2-2%): Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Silk Amino Acids or Hydrolyzed Keratin can help to strengthen the hair and reduce breakage.

  5. Emulsifiers (1-3%): Emulsifying agents like Polysorbate 60 or Lecithin help to combine the oil and water phases.

  6. Preservatives (0.5-1%): Ingredients like Phenoxyethanol, Potassium sorbate, or Sodium benzoate ensure that the product is free from harmful microbial growth.

  7. Thickening Agents (0.2-1%): Ingredients such as Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, or Hydroxyethylcellulose are used to adjust the viscosity of the product.

  8. pH adjusters (0.1-0.5%): Citric acid or Lactic acid can be used to adjust the pH of the conditioner. The ideal pH of a hair conditioner is typically around 4-5.

  9. Fragrance (0.2-1%): Essential oils or fragrance oils can be added according to the desired smell.

  10. Deionized Water (to 100%): The remaining percentage is typically water to make up the rest of the product.

These conditioners are typically rich in oils and butters, helping to rehydrate and moisturize dry and brittle hair.
