General Recipe:
-
Cationic Surfactants (3-7%): Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride, or Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine. These ingredients act as conditioning and detangling agents.
-
Emollients (1-5%): These can include lighter oils like Jojoba or Safflower Oil which provide hydration without being overly heavy.
-
Humectants (2-5%): Ingredients like Glycerin or Panthenol can help attract and retain moisture in the hair.
-
Emulsifiers (1-3%): These help to combine the oil and water phases. Examples include Cetearyl Alcohol or Glyceryl Stearate.
-
Preservatives (0.5-1%): Ingredients such as Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, or Potassium Sorbate ensure the product is free from harmful microbial growth.
-
Thickening Agents (0.2-1%): Ingredients like Xanthan Gum or Hydroxyethylcellulose can be used to adjust the viscosity of the conditioner.
-
pH Adjusters (0.1-0.5%): Citric Acid or Lactic Acid can be used to adjust the pH of the conditioner to be more acidic which is beneficial for closing the hair cuticle.
-
Fragrance/ Essential Oils (0.2-1%): These can be added according to the desired smell and additional beneficial properties they may have for the scalp and hair.
-
Deionized Water (to 100%): The remaining percentage is typically water to make up the rest of the product.
