Dry Shampoos

General Recipe:

  1. Absorbent Powders (65-75%): These will absorb the excess oil from the scalp and hair. Commonly used absorbent materials include Corn Starch, Tapioca Starch, and Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch.

  2. Clay (10-20%): Kaolin or Bentonite can also be used for their oil-absorbing properties.

  3. Aerosol Propellant (If applicable, 20-30%): If you're creating an aerosol-based dry shampoo, you'll need a propellant like Hydrofluorocarbon 152a or Propane/Butane mixtures. These percentages are generally much higher in the finished aerosol product.

  4. Binding Agents (1-2%): Magnesium stearate or Silica can be used to enhance adhesion of the powders to the hair and scalp.

  5. Conditioning Agents (0.5-1%): Panthenol or a silicone like Cyclomethicone can be used for additional conditioning and shine.

  6. Fragrance (0.2-0.5%): Essential oils or fragrance oils can be used to add a pleasant scent to the product.

  7. Preservatives (0.1-0.2%): Even though the product is anhydrous, a preservative may still be needed, especially if the product will be stored in a humid bathroom environment. Benzyl Alcohol or Phenoxyethanol could be options.

These shampoos come in powder or aerosol form and are used to absorb excess oil at the roots when you don't have time to wash your hair.
