Smoothing or Anti-Frizz Conditioner
General Recipe:
-
Cationic Surfactants (5-10%): Such as Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride, or Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine. These work as conditioning agents and help to smooth the hair cuticle, reducing frizz.
-
Emollients (3-10%): Oils such as argan oil, coconut oil, or jojoba oil can be used. These oils provide shine and hydration to the hair.
-
Silicones (2-8%): Dimethicone or Amodimethicone. Silicones can provide a smooth and shiny feel to hair by creating a coating around the hair shaft.
-
Humectants (1-5%): Glycerin or Panthenol. These attract and hold moisture in the hair, further helping to reduce frizz.
-
Protein (0.5-5%): Hydrolyzed keratin or silk protein can be included to strengthen the hair and improve its texture.
-
Preservatives (0.5-1%): Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, or Potassium Sorbate to prevent microbial growth.
-
Thickeners (0.2-1%): Xanthan Gum or Hydroxyethylcellulose can be used to increase the viscosity of the conditioner.
-
Fragrance/Essential Oils (0.2-1%): For scent and additional beneficial properties for the hair and scalp.
-
pH Adjusters (0.1-0.5%): Citric Acid or Lactic Acid to maintain the product at a hair-friendly pH, generally slightly acidic to help seal the hair cuticle.
-
Deionized Water (to 100%): The remaining percentage is typically water.
These conditioners aim to smooth the hair's cuticle, reduce frizz, and add shine.
